How can networks help us identify critical relationships in biomedical systems? How can we uncover hidden connections between genes and predict disease pathways? How can visualizing medical data improve diagnostics and treatment outcomes? How can machine learning and deep learning models transform the analysis of complex medical data?
If you're eager to explore these questions, join us at the Biomedical Data Science Summer School! This program equips participants with the theoretical foundation and practical skills to apply network science, data visualization, and machine learning to real-world biomedical challenges.
The curriculum focuses on four key areas:
Biomedical Network Science
Learn how networks can model relationships between genes, proteins, diseases, and patient data to uncover patterns and predict interactions.
Healthcare Data Sources And Visualization
Explore healthcare data sources and practical methods for creating clear, interactive visualizations of complex datasets, improving interpretability and decision-making.
Machine Learning on Tabular Medical Data
Apply machine learning techniques to structured datasets, such as electronic health records, to predict outcomes and identify risk factors.
Deep Learning on Unstructured Medical Data
Gain hands-on experience with deep learning models to analyze unstructured data, including medical images, text, and genomic sequences.
Participants will work in teams on data-driven projects, applying what they learn in the courses. Mentors will provide guidance, and teams will present their results to an expert jury at the end of the program. Dedicated time is set aside for project work and presentations, ensuring a practical and engaging learning experience.
Participants who successfully complete the summer school will be awarded 4 ECTS. A certificate of completion will be provided by Semmelweis University, which can facilitate credit transfer to your home institution.
Participants are expected to have a good command of both spoken and written English.
They should be comfortable programming in Python, as the language will be used throughout the course.
For those who are not familiar with Python, it is highly recommended that they watch online tutorial videos or complete an introductory online course before attending.
Basic knowledge of mathematics and statistics is also beneficial. If you feel like you need a refresher, we recommend this video.

If you wish to finance your participation in our event(s) through your university, department, or a European Union grant, and require an official confirmation, please indicate this in the "Additional Information" section at the bottom of the registration form.
The university will issue an invoice for each participant who has paid the required fee. Therefore, please ensure that you complete the billing section on the registration form. Kindly verify that the provided information is accurate: if the invoice is issued in your name, enter your personal details; if it is issued to your institution, provide the institution’s details.
When transferring the conference participation fee, please ensure that the correct amount is paid according to your registration. If you have opted for the gala dinner, its fee must also be included in the transferred amount (the summer school + conference bundle ticket already includes the price of the gala dinner).
Additionally, please pay special attention to how bank fees are deducted. If your bank deducts transaction fees from the transferred amount, resulting in a lower sum being received by the organizing institution, the missing amount will need to be settled through an additional transfer.

Our summer course can be further enriched by a three-day professional conference organized by our institute immediately following the Summer School. This conference also provides an excellent opportunity for participants to present their own research, either through oral presentations or poster sessions.
The conference will feature dedicated sessions for student presentations related to the topics covered in the Summer School, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter, promoting professional discussions, and encouraging networking.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about other researchers’ work, discuss challenges in their own projects, and establish new collaborations with professionals who share similar research interests.
Please note that lunch is not included in the Summer School registration fee. However, the venue is conveniently located near a wide variety of dining options where participants can purchase lunch at their own expense.
Below is a list of the closest restaurants offering daily lunch menus, à la carte service, or buffet-style meals:
In addition, Corvin Plaza Mall is located within a 10-minute walk of the main venue and hosts a wide range of fast-food restaurants.
